Waiting for 20 minutes

Yesterday I have been trying to connect 2 WinXP using
crossover cable (direct connection, succeeded but can't
access to needed files on the other, thus I left it.
Since then I didn't sit down on the machines. Today, for
every application I click, I have to wait for about 20m..
I press ctr+alt+del, says are runing. I don't know what I
have messed-up with or has gone wrong.Help!
