Windows 2000 SP4, otherwise runs well and stably. However, when I
click on any of my Favorites in the Start Menu, the Printers Folder
opens, not the web page, not IE, just the Printers folder. Clicking on
Printers opens Printers, clicking Control Panel opens Control Panel,
and all other shortcuts do what they're supposed to. The only
recalcitrant miscreant is the Favorites one, and this is becoming a
PITA.

I took the Favorites out of the Start Menu, then put them back, same
result. I ran Norton's WinDoctor, to clean up the shortcuts, same
result.

As I said, a PITA.
Ideas as to possible cures gratefully received,
Jimmy

Have you tried deselecting it, possibly rebooting in between,
and selecting it again?

Thanks for the suggestion, Alan, hHere's what I did when I got it:

Taskbar, Properties, Advanced, Start Menu Settings, unchecked "Display
Favorites". Powered Down, (not simply "Restarted", switched PC off).
Powered Up.

Ran Norton WinDoctor to let it clean up the Registry, let it fix the
few other problems it found.
Powered Down, Powered Up.

Back to Properties, Advanced, Start Menu Settings, checked "Display
Favorites".
Powered Down, Powered Up.

Same Problem, dammit.
Googled all possible Search terms, looked all over MS' KB, no apparent
help anywhere.
I figure the answer is somewhere in the Registry, which I otherwise
would not be afraid to edit, but I do have reservations about poking
around in System Folders.

Am stumped, hoping for help, and grateful if I get it.

What problems did Norton find and fix? Is it possible that these
problems are related? How long was your system behaving normally
before this occured?

Nothing out of the ordinary, AFAIK, just the usual shortcuts to data
files (which I move about frequently), plus a few to old
PartitionMagic apps, long deleted.

As to your second question (" How long was your system behaving
normally...."): for at least 2 years, since first installing W2k.
