When I shut down my W2k Professional, the process starts
and shuts down the monitor, but not the tower, which now
has to be shut down with the close button on the tower.
On the advice of Dell Tech support, I reformatted my hard
drive (a highly unpleasant task), and the system returned
to normal.
This was several weeks ago. Since then I reloaded various
things, warded off several virus attacks, etc. Yesterday
evening the problem returned, i.e. the tower does not shut
off automatically.
If you have any info or new ideas, kindly let me know.

The same exact thing has happened to me. I have around 7
clone dell optiplexs and two of them won't shut down for
no apparent reason. I refuse to format w/o knowing the
reason why this is happening or it will just happen again.

So I also would like an answer for this problem.
