W2K Problem

DIGS

I am running into a problem on a windows 2000 pc, it will not boot into the
Login screen. I have tried booting in Safe mode as well as last good
configuration but they have both filed. After the windows 2000 screen loads
then the desktop back ground appears for about 3 seconds or so the PC
reboots.

I ran the Windows 2000 CD and did a repair all checks out fine. Also went to
the windows repair console and did a FIXBOOT, and FIXMBR Still no luck and
it is not able to boot to the Login screen.

I was told a Windows update was possible done but I am not 100%. I am not
sure if it may be a GUI problem with update that Ran. Does anyone know about
a Patch?

Any suggestions are helpful in recovering.

Thank you

Digs,

Is the hard drive light constantly on?

Is the hard drive detected in the BIOS?

To the OP -- did you recently install the Windows Update KB931768? This
update is known to be bad, both in Win2K as well as Vista, and causes a
variety of problems. One of the repoerted problems is continual rebooting
of Win2K.

Uninstall this update if you have it, and see if things improve.

Have you run the repair more than once?

Have you run the repair more than once? Yes 3 times

Read the thread from Wideawake posted on the 10th. Try the suggestion
about removing the update using a batch file in the recovery console.
