One of my company's employees has reported that their W2K
Pro workstation is apparently going through POST and
hanging with a cursor on the screen when the os would
normally start loading. I haven't been able to
physically check the system, but they have checked the
bios setup and it doesn't appear to be a hardware problem.
A day before this problem starting occurring, I had
briefly connected a secondary hd to transfer some data.
The system was working correctly before, during and after
the data transfer. I also defragged the primary hd after
disconnecting the secondary hd.
The employee reported that when she went to shut down the
system (around four - five hours after defrag) the system
was on the blank screen.
I've checked the KB, but haven't seen anything that deals
with this specific problem.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to what may be
causing the system to hang?
Thanks!
