W2K Install

BSOD and the following message is displayed when W2K
attempts to start from install Cd. MS KB doesn't have a
reference to particular error code. Win98 installed ok so
I'm thinking HCL. Does anybody know what this error is
referring to. Thanks.

STOP: 0x00000071
SESSION5_INITIALIZATION_FAILED

Surely the link refers to a sitation after the INSTALLATION Is complete & he
OS is in use...& that if I rea the POST correctly is NOT the case here...Our
friend Jon is tryingto INSTALL the OS & from what I read he's NOT
successful...

I suggest that Jon check the following links:

http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/w2kmsgs/1218.asp

http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/ddtools/hh/ddtools/bccodes_2d5z.asp

Jon should also try the following options:

1. Check the HCL...like Jon suggested there might be Hardware which mightbe
having problems with the 2000 OS...

2. Remove all unnecessary Hardware (like Sound cards, Modems, Network Cards,
etc) & boot up with bare minimum requirements: i.e. CPU, 1 memory stick, VGA
card...if that does NOT work try another VGA card, MEMORY, CPU etc...

3. Get in touch with the manufacturer of the Motherboard to ensure that NO
BIOS updates are required for the board to run Win2000 w/o problems...

If all else fails let us know what you did Jon & what the observations were
at each step...that might help us help U...& this time please als quote the
parameteres in the brackets...after the STOP message..if there is any...

Great suggestions. I checked the windows 2000 Hcl and
didn't find the main board manufacture on the list.
However, windows 98 installed so I checked the win98 hcl
list and guess what? The main board wasn't on that list
either.

The full stop message from attempting to install from cd
is:

STOP:0x00000071 (0x00000000, 0x00000000, 0x00000000,
0x00000000, 0x00000000)

Tonight I created the four setup disks and tried again.
New error "File \vgtaoem.fon could not be loaded. Error
code is 7). I changed the video from AGP to PCI card and
get the same error.

Any ideas..??
