w2k help doesn't work

Hi, everybody. Using for short time the famous Win2000Pro (SR4 + IE6SP1 +
latest updates)I've encountered such a problem - PC does not want to display
any help file of type .chm. Instead there is displayed strange message
containing 'mk:mad:MSITstore ...'.The .chm files are sure OK - they are
diplayed on the other PC under the same OS w2k+servpck4. Does anybody knows
what's going on and how to bear with it? Regards, Michael.

Hi,

The above issue can occur, if the "hhctrl.ocx" has been replaced with an
incorrect version or is corrupt (hhctrl.ocx is
the Microsoft HTML Help Control).

To resolve the issue follow the steps given below:

1) Boot to Safe-mode to disable Windows File Protection
2) Rename System32\hhctrl.ocx and System32\DLLCache\hhtctrl.ocx (if it
exists)
3) Expand hhctrl.oc_ from the Windows 2000 CD or copy hhctrl.ocx from the
%SystemRoot%\ServicePackFiles\ directory.
4) Start - Run - regsvr32 hhctrl.ocx

You should now be able to open help files both directly and via application
Help
menus.

Hope this helps.

Thank you very much for your advice Mr. Vijay, it really does work. I've
lost a lot of time trying to find a solution to that problem at Microsoft
Support site but those people knowing the problem very well could give you
only an advice of type 'help yourself as you can do'. So thank you very much
once more and best regards. Michael Ramotowski, Poland.
