W2K Dell 6600 abnormal reboots : actually a reset occurs

i have been encountering abnormal resets with a Dell 6600 for some
time now. There is no event log entry aside from registering an
abnormal reboot. I have had various hardware replaced but the resets
continue. Dell eventually replaced the entire server after it reset
with only one disk and their own version of W2k and drivers installed.
The resets continue with the new box. The resets timing is
absolutely random, and occur regardless of application \ W2K version \
bios \ network card \ environment etc. My only possible cause is the
network connection. With a network cable attached the server resets,
without one it appears not to. However i have other Dell 6600s
running perfectly well in the same rack.

I have checked the bios for network related items but cannot see
anything (i have disabled the onboard gigabit cards and installed a
3com NIC - still resets).

Dell state they have never seen this before and are going to test the
returned box as soon as they can.

My local network people have checked\changed ports\cables and they say
everything is fine but the resets continue.

Does anyone hear have any tips or suggestions ? This box has become
the bane of my life :-(

Much appreciated
Stuart

maybe there's an intermittent short to the reset pins on the
motherboard. I'm sure even servers have some kind of hard reset
switch don't they?
