W2k accesses floppy

All:
Of late W2k is accessing the floppy drive a few minutes after having
started. In other words, say I click on an icon 5 minutes after the OS is
functioning and the floppy starts gargling as if W2k is looking into that
drive.
I had thought earlier, and posted in IE, that it was only when I opened
Internet Explorer (6, by the way). But, I now belive that that was only a
coincidence; that it happens no matter which program I start with.
I installed Adaware-6, SpywareBlaster and Spybot Search and Destroy and
I have antivirus progams. Can anyone figure out what's going on, even though
I'm sure I haven't given our too many details of this problem?

I have antivirus progams.

Could one of them (multiples is a really bad idea, are you sure you
have plural "programs"?) be trying to scan the floppy?

I have a couple of AV programs, but only one running at any one time.
