One of my win2000 computers has become infected with the
VX2.Betterinternet abomination. Every attempt at removing
it with Ad-aware, Spyhunter, KillBox, etc have been
unsuccessful. I am trying to figure out where to go from
here. I have two questions :

1. Does anybody have info on how to clean this !@#$%^^&&*
spyware off my computer?

OR

2. Is it possible to reinstall Win2000 from the original
distribution CDs in such a way that the infestation will
be resolved but I don't have to reinstall every dang
program that is currently available?

Thanks for the help

Answer:

This is how I go rid of vx2.betterinternet aka "transponder."

Boot computer with boot disk. Don't try to go into safe-mode, it
won't work in deleting this trojan. After booting from the boot disk
go into C:\windows\system32 and delete the file "msg117.dll." You can
also delete msg115.dll and msg116.dll if they are also in the folder.
These files are responsible for staying memory resident, even in
safe-mode and loading many other types of adware on your machine.

vx2.betterinternet is a bitch to get rid of until you know the name of
the file, where it's located, and to boot to a boot disk.

I found the above answer at:

Hope this helps.
