Having the vulnerability of my pc to hackers checked (the check is whether
doors of programs are open, hidden or closed) I received 2 alerts on open
doors at:
1. Ping ICMPn
2. 5000 UPnP (Universal Plug and Play).

Does anyone knowsa how can I close or hide them. I know nothing about this.
thanks a lot

Could you be referring to ports? A port can be thought of as a doorway into
your computer.

It sounds like you have installed a firewall, or perhaps you are using
Windows firewall. That's a great idea, but a firewall alone will not protect
your computer from intruders. You also need antivirus software and you need
to obtain security updates from Windows Update. You should also seriously
consider a spyware detector and a separate trojan blocker. Bear in mind
that, even with all this protection, your computer is still open to attack
unless you follow safe computing practices. This information will help you:

"Protect Your PC"
www.microsoft.com/protect

If your firewall is properly configured it will automatically incoming
PINGs. Therefore, you should review your firewall's settings to make sure it
is configured properly.

Universal Plug and Play (UPnP) is a feature of Windows XP that makes it
easier for you to connect to devices on your network. If you are not on a
network you will not receive UPnP requests. If you are on a network, ask the
network administrator for help.

"If your firewall is properly configured it will automatically incoming
PINGs."

Correction:

If your firewall is properly configured it will automatically *reject*
incoming PINGs.
