Vuescan - Canon MP800 not detected

Roger Moss

I have the latest version of VueScan (8.3.30) and a new Canon MP800
all-in-one scanner/printer on a Windows XP Pro laptop. When I try to use
Vuescan with the MP800, Vuescan hangs on startup until I turn the scanner
off (it then starts but says "No scanner was found...").

If I have the scanner on and am running MP Navigator (or Navigator &
Scangear) when I try to start VueScan, Vuescan starts but still says "No
scanner was found..."

Has anyone else come across this? Is there a cure? I want to use Vuescan
because I find I cannot resolve detail in the dark areas of a slide using
Scangear.

Thanks
Roger

You can try different version of Vuescan, I believe that 8.3.30
is seriously broken. I have installed it and it broke _everything_.
Had to return to the previous version (8.3.25) which works OK for me.

Second the notion of rolling back to a prior working version of VueScan. I
was OK with 8.3.25 also. Version 8.3.30 stuffed my K-M DSM into an endless
"calibrate" state.

I'm seeing a similar issue with an HP Scanjet 5500c. Scanner works
with other programs but once VueScan (8.3.30) is run then I have to
reboot the computer to get the scanner recognized again by the other
programs.

I'd be interested in "cures" myself. I'm evaluating the software and
WANT to like it, pretty impressed with what I've seen so far.
