VS 2005, Vista, MP3s, And A Celeron M 520 Based Laptop?

Hi,

I could use a sanity check.

I used to listen to MP3s while working with VS 2003 and XP on a
500MHz CPU. Now I'm being told this might not be possible with
VS 2005 and Vista on a 1.6GHz Celeron M 520 based laptop.
Is this really true? (Assume memory upgraded to 1GB).

I've heard terrible things about Vista but XP got trashed too. BTW,
this is Vista Home Basic. Is there going to be problem with VS
and this version?

Toshiba 520s are going dirt cheap this week. It would be nice to
free myself from my desktop now and then to enjoy the outside.

Thanks,
Gary

This is not really C# question - but the worst accounts I have heard of
Vista say that is slows down apps up to 25% - this is likely exagerated.
Mostly - it will just consume more ram. You can always tweak your vista box
using the tweaks found on www.blackviper.com

MP3's on my 500 would play until I tried to multitask and then they would
stutter very badly.

It will play.

Although - if you can find a copy of windows XP that would be better.

Get at least 2GB of ram... my only advice. My pentium 3 1000MHz was able
to play music and program at the same time, so the processor should do fine.

Also make sure the laptop you're buying has something stronger than an
Intel onboard VGA chip. If you want Vista in it's fancy mode you'll need
a faster video card in there. (Also the Intel chipsets usually consume a
part of your system memory)

Hi I am pretty sure that Vista Home Basic, the version that the
original poster has, does not have the 3D acceleration of the user
interface.
