VS 2005 upgrade - detect previous release

I have purchased the VS 2005 professional upgrade. I would like to remove VS
2003 prior to installation. If I uninstall VS 2003, how does VS 2005 know I
qualify for the upgrade pricing?

VS2003 and VS2005 are different products with each targeting different
version of .NET framework (meaning each one can only work with specific .NET
version) and they are inteded to run side by side. Unless you do not need to
work with .NET framework1.1 at all, you really do not have to remove VS2003.

I guess is that when you buy VS2005 as "UPGRADE", it only means you PAY less
if you previuosly owned VS2003. Technically, the late comer of the two
(actually three VS2002, VS2003, VS2005) does not "Upgrade" to former at all:
it installs in different folders on your computer, the previuos version
still works as a seperate one, and they co-exist peacefully.

I have no need to run VS 2003 side by side with VS 2005. But how does the VS
2005 Upgrade install know you qualified for the lower price if you remove VS
2003? Does it ask for the VS 2003 DVD?
