VPN W2K to WXP

I have created a VPN from my home(client Windows 2000) to
office (destination/server Windows XP Pro) and am having
problems connecting. I continually get the error message
of:

"TCP/IP CP reproted error 733. Your computer and the
remote computer could not agree on PPP control protocols."

1)Does anyone know whether this is a problem with a
Windows 2000 PC talking to a Windows XP machine?

2)Should I be configuring the PPP protocols on either the
client computer or the destination computer or do I need
to instale a new protocol?

You can use whatever encryption methods you want on the server, but for the
connection on the client, you need to set it to "Automatic" so that the
computers can negotiate. Your client will then adapt to whatever encryption
the server is using.

I have it set to automatic but it still doesn't want to
connect - any other ideas would be appreciated.

Is the XP machine behind a firewall and are ports 47 and 1723 open and
routed to it?

I have port 1723 open but not 47. I have the connection
going through a router, does 47 have to be openned through
the router as well?

I have the same problem. I got a connection in the end by adding IPX at both ends and I get an IPX connection and not a TCP/IP This allows a VPN connection. By the way, you need to use port 1723 in inward and outward for VPN if using a router.
