VPN Hotfix

I need the Microsoft Hotfix from KB840645 to stop the
computer disconnecting from a VPN. It is one that needs
to be requested from Microsoft Support and I am stuck in a
loop. Because XP Pro came with the computer, I cannot get
support from MS while the PC vendor (Sony) say they can't
supply it, I have to get it from MS. Can someone suggest
a way out of this loop?
 
If it is a hotfix then MS generally supply free, even if XP install is OEM.
