I have a windows xp professional connecting to a windows 2000 professional
computer. I set up a vpn connection to the windows 2000. I am using my new
windows xp professional service pack 2 to connect to my windows 2000 with sp
4 installed. This the computer at my office. My computer at home is windows
xp professional with sp2. I have a router which i enabled port forwarding on
ports 1723, 500, 50, 51 47 to 192.168.1.101. That private ip address is my
windows 2000 computer at work. I don't know why after connecting it gives
TCP/IP CP 733. It is telling me to adjust my security protocol. What should i
do. How do i resolve the issue.

For a PPTP VPN you need TCP port 1723 and Protocol 47. Protocol 47 is not
the same as TCP or UDP port 47. This can be implemented on many routers by
enabling a feature variously called PPTP or VPN or VPN Passthrough.

For an L2TP/IPSec VPN you need a Certificate source (requires Windows Server
OS or 3rd party) or a preshared key. In Win2k you would need to configure
IPSec Policy in order to use a preshared key.
