VPN Connection Issues

Can anyone help when i connect a VPN connection (thru
DSL) to work it signs me out of MSN messenger and IE wont
work. It seems like the VPN is taking all the bandwidth
and not letting any apps work. Does anyone know how to
fix this problem?

Hi Sig,
You will probably find that all data is being routed though to the VPN
network and not over your internet connection.

This can be resolved in several ways. Firstly if you have a proxy server you
might want to configure it. Alternatively you could do a split-tunnell. This
means that you define what data is routed where. In your scenario this would
mean that data meant for your corporate network would be routed to the VPN
interface and all other data would be routed though the internet interface.

This can be easily accomplished using Microsoft Connection Manager. Using
Connection Manager you can create a profile that would automatically set
your proxy information when you are connected to the corporate VPN. You
could also use Connection Manager to update your routing information for
that connection so that you can have a split tunnell. For more information
on Microsoft Connection Manager I would recommend that you look at
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/tr...sserver2003/proddocs/standard/cmak_ops_06.asp

If you decide to do this using a RAS connection instead than you will need
to use the route add command. For information on how to use this have a
look at
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/tr...chnet/prodtechnol/winxppro/proddocs/route.asp

Please be aware that you will need to manually run this command after you
connect. When you disconnect you will probably need to update your routing
table as well.

I hope this helps
