VPN and Linksys router

How do you set up a VPN via the Internet with a Linksys router? The ISP is Verizon which has a WAN IP address, Verizon DNS server addresses and an Internal IP address as well. Or is it not possible using VPN that comes with W2K? I installed all the software and I can't get it to work. The internal network ip addresses are non routable addresses. Of course I tested this from a different location and it doesn't work. If some can point me in the right direction, I will definitely appreicate it.

Thanks

Yes, it will work if the router is correctly configured. You configure
the W2k machine to act as a remote access server. You can debug the setup
locally by connecting from another LAN machine. It has all the software you
need.

To connect from the Internet, you must connect initially to a "real"
public IP, such as your router. To extent the connection to the RRAS server
on the LAN, you need to forward PPTP (tcp port 1723) from the router to the
server.

You need to also make sure that the router does not block GRE (IP
protocol 47). This is required to allow the VPN traffic through. Exactly how
you do this depends on the model and firmware version of your Linksys.
