Was Ian's first word, apparently, I note from Sexy Bex's post in Ady's baby thread.

That's quite incredible.

It's also extremely geeky, which figures ;)

So, tell us yours or your offspring's first spoken uttering.

My eldest daughter didn't say a thing for a long time then one day when I was driving along with her on the back seat strapped in the baby seat she said 'Shut the window it's cold'

I was so startled I nearly drove into a lampost

And shocked, somewhat. But also pleased.

The twins said the usual Mum or Dad and I have not a clue what my first word was, it may have been 'Guinness' :D

But 'Vortex' though - what did Mummy & Daddy rocket scientist talk about in front of the very young Mr Cunningham?

Hahaha, I wondered what this thread was when I saw the title. It sounds like a good first word for a geek like me, however admitting where it came from is the embarassing part :o

Apparently, during a bath when I was little, I was terrified of the plug hole and always scared that I'd be sucked down it. My dad got his finger and swirled it round saying "vortex" and I repeated it.

I didn't know this myself until my parents told us both a few months back (as my sister has a 9 month old, which prompted the conversation) She can now say : dadadadadadadadada and mamamamamamamama

My first word was barstuard.

I apparently heard a neighbour say it many times, as a vicar walked past me he said hello and I replied barstuard he told my Mother to control me to which she replied tell the man in number 181 as he is the one who started teaching others.

:D

Mine was "Volkkari" ("Veedub").
