Volume Control on Desktop

I have a laptop and in the past when I would adjust the volume an icon would
pop up on the desktop. This no longer happens automatically. Any way i can
get that icon to pop up automatically? The icon still shows on the task bar
and i can open it manually.
 
That would be a feature of the laptops special soundcard software.
Contact the manufacturer tech support for downloads and assistance with
that software. The Windows XP part is working properly.
