what is the deal with vnc when you min a window or folder etc on host,
you don't see it do anything? but then you move the mouse and it is like
you are using paint and then it's like yer using the mouse to erase the
screen so you can see stuff? opening things and stuff like menues in
apps does the same thing. why and how do you fix it?

In the Update handling area of the WinVNC dialogue on the
serving workstation set to Poll Full Screen and unselect
other options in that area. Apply > OK.

This will fix the problem you have, but it will create a
new one. It will create significant overhead. To see the
impact use task manager. On any machine under 400 MHz it
may be useless. If the only singinficant task that the
machine is performing is VNC Server, then it may work
okay. If you have a fast machine, e.g. over 1.5 GHz, then
you will probably be okay.

I checked it, did not uncheck anything else. Seems to have helped slightly,
thank you!! However why is VNC so slow compared to pc anywhere or the built
in windows xp remote desktop? It's like 10 times slower and has so many
video problems compared to the others, how come?

Try tightvnc. It offers better performance (for me) than RealVNC or
WinVNC... As for why it is slower or has video problem - it isn't a
native app - it works on many different OS's and isn't optimized for a
specific environment or use

I've tried tight and it gave problems like you wouldn't believe. Black
screen issues trying to log on and so forth, it was bad. but then the host
was win xp, so hmm.
