VNC Compatibility Problem

T

Terry Farrell

An error dialog appeared whilst remote controlling a
customer's machine via VNC. VNC had previously been picked
up as a potential threat and Spyware was set to
permanently ignore. The icon was in the task tray until
the dialog box was closed.

Also noticed that closing and reopening Outlook causes the
dialog box to flash on screen very briefly, and Outlook
does not open. Clicking the link again opens Outlook
normally. Problem clears after a reboot.

I guess I cannot post a screenshot here (32kb PNG)?

I'm not sure exactly what happened to VNC as you report it above?

I did this, as a test: I connected via VPN to a customer's machine. I ran
UltraVNC 1.0.0 RC18 which I believe is also the version installed on the
customer machine.

I then downloaded the Microsoft Malicious software removal tool, which I
knew would raise an alert from Microsoft Antispyware.

That all worked fine--all the dialogs and alerts were as expected and
readable. There are lots of versions of VNC, and I've seen reports of
resource issues--slowdowns--during the course of active VNC connections with
some versions.
