vlookup thru multiple sheets?

Does VLOOKUP not work thru multiple sheets? I'm trying to match dates, but the book I'm looking at has a sheet for each month. When I try to make the range look thru all the sheets it gives me a value error...

No - VLOOKUP does not work three dimensionally.

This worked for me but I only had two sheets. It could become length
with more than two.

=IF(ISERROR(VLOOKUP(A1,Sheet2!$A$1:$B$1,2,FALSE)),VLOOKUP(A1,Sheet3!$A$1:$B$1,2,FALSE),VLOOKUP(A1,Sheet2!$A$1:$B$1,2,FALSE)
