Vlookup or SumIF to sum multiple cells matching the same criteria

How can I use the vlookup or sumif function to find multiple matches in a single
column and to sum them. Some of the values are numbers but are generated by formulas. Problem seems to bee that vlookup "stops" on the first exact match and sumif does not pickup the values generated by formulas. What function should I use for this?
