vlookup failure

We have created a worksheet that pulls information from
another sheet via a vlookup function. The sheet that the
vlookup references is created via a query from access. The
vlookup fails until you go to the reference sheet...
highlight the applicable problem cell and then press enter
(no visable change occurs). Not sure what the problem is
never seen this before.

What evidence do you have of failure? Give examples.
Any error messages or #N/A etc?
What version of Excel & OS are you using?

For clarification, are both worksheets in the same workbook?

If you get correct returns after editing the cell(s), sounds like the data on
the sheet could be numbers formatted as text.

Select your data and Format as General.

Copy an empty cell. Select your data and Paste Special>Add>OK>Esc.

These steps will change the data to "real" numbers.
