Visual Web Developer vs FrontPage?

S

Sam Bryan

I've tried Google'ing this question, but w/o much enlightenment?

Could someone tell me briefly about the difference between Visual Web
Developer and FrontPage? How are they functionally different? Are there
things I can do or do more readily in Visual Web Developer than I can do in
FrontPage?
A naive question -- but why are there 2 MS products to do web development?
Visual Web Developer Express is free?

Thanks -- Sam

VWD could be thought of as a cut back version of visual studio.
FrontPage is primarily a web page authoring tool, but does have some
programmatic capabilities.

the most common scenario is a developer will use FrontPage or similar tool
and a graphics program to make the layout and design elements of a site and
a tool like VWD or VS to do the programming.

Thanks Chris. You mention VWD for programming. A naive question I guess,
but what is the programming language for VWD? -- Sam

VBscript - ASPX/ASP.

Anything you like - PHP, Javascript etc.

But being a MS product VBscript is the logical choice and works best with
..net/aspx servers.
