Visual Studio/C# and Synaptics mousepad driver

Don't know where else to post -- appreciate pointers.

I need to install the synaptics touchpad driver for the "palmcheck" feature
given the Presario X1000's propensity for stray mouse movements. However,
after installing this newer driver, some programs that already had built-in
support for the scrollwheel/pad no longer scroll at all form the scrollpad
with the drivers "simulated" scrollpad support that moves the mouse to the
scrollbar area -- one of these is Visual Studio. (Some others, like Notepad,
do still work but scroll less well.)
No settings seem to fix this.

Any pointers?
