visual for volume and brightness of screen

I used to be able to see a visual of the brightness of the screen or the
volume right above the clock. Something was changed on my computer and now
it is not visible. I was wondering if anyone knew where to turn this on.

Look in control panel under Display and Sound. There will be options to
display in the tray. Place a check mark in the box and it should appear in
the tray.
