Visual Basic and SP2

Hi,
I'm one of the people for whom Office 2003, SP2 would not install, but I
read the newsgroup and downloaded, and successfully installed, the
recommended file (full version). I do not have the Professional version of
office (nor visual basic), but since the sp2 update, there seems to be a
visual basic in Excel! Is this merely because that full version of sp2
over-updated me, or is VB really now included in the product?

Visual Basic has been included in every version of Excel since it first
appeared with Excel 5. There are options not to install it and to disable
it when it is installed but neither of these is on by default. So I don't
know why you didn't have or at least thought not...

Hi Jim,

Thank you for clarifying that for me. When I purchased Office I thought
that I would have had to have the Developer version to have Basic - both the
retailer and Microsoft led me to believe this. But I couldn't afford it.
Then when I had to decide between Professional or not, (having some knowledge
of databases) I imagined Access would be a problem without programming
language support, so I got the non-professional version. Now, having read
your reply, and assuming that Access, like Excel, also includes some Basic
facility, I think I may have made the wrong decision! Either way, thank you
for the information.

As for the installation of Office... I was probably too stressed out to
notice!
