Visual Basic ActiveX Controls: 1

After the install of the Windows AntiSpyware (Beta), I get a dialouge box
that pops up asking for the location of Visual Basic ActiveX Controls: 1.
Although the Icon for the Antispyware IS in the notifiacation area, and it
appears to be running....

Has Anyone else run into this?
And if SO - what does it mean, and do I need to download/re-install
something?

Anything more to say about that dialog box? This sounds like one of the
installer snafus that we are seeing--do you know where to find the item
(i.e. download and reinstall) that is being requested?

Regarding that question:

I need to correct my earlier statement - "...Although the Icon for the
Antispyware IS in the notifiacation area, and it
appears to be running...."
While PART of this is true - (the part about it being down there), the
reality is that when I try to actually DO the scan, THAT is when I get the
error.

The errors are as follows:

Window 1. [Caption Bar at top of window] "Visual Basic ActiveX Controls"

The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that
is unavailable.
Click OK to try again, or enter an alternate path to a folder
containing the installation
package 'vbcontrols[1].msi' in the box below.

Window 2. [Caption Bar at top of window] "Visual Basic ActiveX Controls"

The path 'c:\Documents and Settings\xp_user\local
settings\Temporary internet
files\content.IE5\AHB66G7R\vbcontrols[1].msi' cannot be found.
Verify that you have access to this location and try again., or
try to find the installation package 'vbcontrols[1].msi' in a
folder from which you can install the product Visual Basic ActiveX Controls.

Window 3. [Caption Bar at top of window] "Visual Basic ActiveX Controls"

Error 1706. No valid source could befound for the product Visual
Basic ActiveX
Controls. The Windows installer cannot continue.

I hope this information is helpful...I am trying to install the software for
the 3rd time today...
Hope someone can shed some light on this for me...

Thank You.

The .MSI package referenced in the message appears to be something which you
at some point downloaded from an Internet source and attempted to install.
Apparently, the installation was incomplete--at least that's my
understanding of what happens when you get these wierd linkages between two
different Windows Installer programs.

If you can re-download and install that package (and then remove it
immediately, if you really have no use for it!) that is one way to fix this,
I believe.

A different route is to download the Windows Installer clean-up app from
Microsoft:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;290301

and use it to remove the traces remaining of that ActiveX Controls package.

I think that either of these two methods should remove this issue for you,
but can't guarantee results, unfortunately.
