Vista's Public User folder

Can I safely delete/disable Vista's Public User folder? Although permissions
for it are not shared (and you cannot rename it via right click), it is
causing me problems. Specifically, when installing SIMS2 game under my kid's
user id, with game installed in program files folder on external FreeAgent
drive, the icon for the game is being put in c:\users\public\desktop-which
means the game icons ALSO show up on my desktop. had other program install do
same- any ideas?? Thanks!
