Vista's pretty darn slow?!

I didnt say its the same thing Sir,

It would help performance though, especialy on low memory systems and it is
worth mentioning.

If you need me to explain anything about how it works, ask.

it is an alternative instead of buying ram

Readyboost RAM is an alternative but not a substitute for System RAM. I
have 3-2gig flash drives that I use on all 3 of my Ultimate Vista
installs and I can guarantee you'll not get that much of a performance
bang using them in place of real System RAM.
I've been swapping hardware around for months now looking for what gives
the very best performance.
Real System RAM and fast HDD's (I'm using WD Raptors w/10,000 spin
speed) make Vista fly!

My advice for max performance-System RAM that puppy all the way up! (grin)

Yes you are right of course...

however some people have laptops that cant upgrade easily...
they have as little as 512 mb ram

what stops them from upgrading? they have 2 sticks of 256 ram and only 2
slots.. and they would have to throw all away to get 1 gig

I can imagine that some people dont have money to spare too..
and they might want to try a flash stick they might already have..

that is why I added the information and I think that in those cases its a
good thing to try.

People have reported here that on those systems with low ram,
there was an improvment with readyboost..
while with 1gb and up ram, there was little or no change at all..

It is only used for small reads, large reads come from the hard drive. So it
shaves access time for small reads and uses the HD for large reads where
throughput is more important.
