I have Vista at home, and I have windows XP at work. I tried to send a word
doc from home to work, and when I open it, it's all garblely gook. How can I
make it a readable document? I'm trying to print it, as my printer at home
went kaput on me.
Thx.

I should add that I did try opeing it as a .txt, .pdf, and .htm document, as
well as a .doc. I did see that the vista version was attached as a .docx
(new extension to me).

On the Microsoft Office web you can download a file format converter which
allows Office 2003 to use the new Office 2007 .docx format. Or on your Word
2007 machine, set the default to save files in the old .doc format instead
of the newer .docx format.

I'd suggest you ask in a Word newsgroup. The Microsoft webpage can be
confusing - this is the first group of many in alphabetical order, but it's
for the database software Microsoft Access. Please scroll down the list and
repost in a Word newsgroup.

First things first: this NG is for Microsoft Access, the database program of
the MS Office suite., You may get better responses in a MS Word NG.

Most likely what is happening is that you are creating Word 2007 documents
on your Vista machine at home using the default .docx extension, and at work
you have an earlier version of Word that does not support that extension.
The cure can be done in a few different ways. You can either get the .docx
convertor at work so that you can open up the newer version OR you can
resave the document at home in the legacy .doc format.
I would probably install the convertor at work so that you do not have this
problem in the future, and at home I would be aware of the fact that the
default file types of the Office 2007 are not accessible with older versions
of Office
