Vista & XP Partition changes

Having had to re-install Vista Ultimate on my Dual O/S PC I found that
all my partitions, 2 HD's 3 partitions each, have been rearranged so
that Vista is now on C: it was on H:.
Also as I had to re-install XP, as well, that is now on H: was on E:.

I understand from another thread that Vista creates partitions
differently now but otherwise leaves them as is.

My question is: Can I return them to letters they were, I knew where
everything was before, or will it upset both Vista and XP?
and as Partition Manager 6 doesn't work well with NTFS partitions is
there a freebie program out there that will?

The following article describes having VISTA change the partitions without a
need for third party software.

Now I've successfully partitioned 2gb away from the main partition, but I'm
having trouble getting more than that. MAYBE you'll have more success.

Vista will also allow you to change the drive letters. I'm GUESSING that if
you changed the drive letter where Vista is located, Vista would recognize
it and be ok. But I can only imagine that XP would be at least a little
confused.
