Hi, i have a problem with my new vista laptop.

i have a hard drive shared on my XP (This is a local disk F:\ ) which the
vista can see. now that i open the share i get a list of all files and
directories in the root of the share. I can open files in the root, edit and
save them. However, when i try opening a directory i get a permission error.

now i try sharing a folder on the hard disk the operating system is
(C:\temp) and like before vista can see it but when i try opening a sub
directory i get a permission error.

now i try adding a printer (shared on my XP) on my vista it can locate the
printer on the XP which i select but when vista tries to connect with the
printer there is yet another permission error.

The XP is running XP pro and is wired to my network
The Vista is running Vista Enterprise and is wirelessly connected to my
network

thanks for all your help...

Are you logging on to both computers with the same account? If not the
problem is you need to add the computer account for the laptop to the other
computer with admin or pwruser's rights and vice versa.

With XP Pro, are you running Simple or Advanced File Sharing? If Advanced, are
you using Guest or non-Guest authentication? Is the Guest or non-Guest account
properly activated for network access?

And check your NetBT setting and personal firewalls - make all computers
consistent.

My XP is named "Prentvel" and the Vista is named "Toshiba" and both are in
the workgroup "WORKGROUP". Now i have a user on my Vista named "Ralph" and he
is an administrator. I create an account on the XP named "Ralph" that is an
administrator as well. However, when i create the user i'm stuck with
creating the user "Prentvel\Ralph" on the XP. Because of this i'm guessing
the "Ralph" user on the Vista is actually "Toshiba\Ralph" so it not really
the same user even if they have the same name.

Anyway, i do that but the problem is still the same.
