Vista won't write to dvd as a CD-RW or as CD-R

the machine says the dvd thingy will write to everything under sun.
Especially CD-R and CD-RW's, but it does not.

What is going on here and how do I sove the problem--not taking the disk for
return.

Hi Robert,

What are you trying to write to disk? What program are you using to write
it? Is the drive new? Does it read CD media ok?
