Vista Won't allow to go back to XP

Shortened Version....

Hate Windows Vista

Try to re-install XP from disc
Vista Won't allow.

Tried to boot from XP disc
Keyboard will turn off at install point and cannot continue. (USB)

What do I do? other than reformat hard drive?

Well to get XP on you have to format Vista out of existance anyways usually
during the NEW install of XP.
USB keyboard............do you have "legacy" enabled in the BIOS??

why is that required?

I just restored a desktop and a notebook, both just by booting from the XP
CD, reformatting & installing.
