Vista Windows Mail w/ Gmail

I'm getting an error message about the SMPT w/ Gmail and when I configured I
didn't see anything similar to Vista or Windows Mail......What next?

you will have to go to the gmail Settings> Forwarding and POP/IMAP
(online via the browser of course) and enable POP

also for quick setup you can use this gmail tool (works with windows mail
and vista too)
