Hello, all:

I'm having a problem on my new network computer. It's connected to my
first computer via a router.

I receive the following error message on the new computer:

"The connection to the server has failed. Account:
'pop-server.nyc.rr.com', Server: 'pop-server.nyc.rr.com', Protocol: POP3,
Port: 995, Secure(SSL): Yes, Socket Error: 10060, Error Number:
0x800CCC0E"

Any suggestions about how to solve this?

Heh heh, marrypoppins. That's what I'm trying to find by posting this
e-maill here.

Thanks for all this, marry. Unfortunately, I don't seem to be able to open
the link below!

I typed the URL into the URL box at the top, and I was toldd the address
doesn't exist. (Yes, I did check my spelling.)

Your POP server, 'pop-server.nyc.rr.com', responds on port 110, it does not
respond on port 995. Why are you using 995 instead of 110? I find nothing
in Road Runner's instructions indication you need to use port 995 and SSL:

I recommend you follow advice from long-time responders here
who know their stuff.
As Hal indicated, your problem is due to using port 995 with SSL
when your mail server only supports port 110 with no SSL.

This query has two topics:

1) OK. I have uninstalled Norton Symantec. I have turned on Windows
Firewall. Do I have to install anything for "malware" from Norton?

2) I don't know if this new problem is related to that, but now, when I try
to get online with my Internet Explorer, a message tells me that I'm working
OFFLINE. I go to Tools and uncheck the Offline box and try again. But I
can't connect to the Internet. The same messsage about working offline comes
up again.

What do I need to do to solve this problem?

Sorry to be confusing.

1) Other contributors here suggested that I uninstall Norton Internet
Security because its anti-virus feature prevents my Windows Mail messages
from being sent to my second computer. My older computer is routed by Linksys
to my newer one.

I have reconnected the Windows Firewall feature. I also have Windows
Defender protecting the computer. So I believe I'm still protected from
viruses.

However, I am still unable to receive messages on my second computer that
are sent to my "host" computer. I AM able to send messages from the second
computer.

2) I solved my second problem (see below) on my own, through sheer accident,
I think!

Thanks for your continued attention.

As far as uninstalling Norton anti-malware, that depends on which
problem you are trying to resolve. Your question #1 doesn't say.
If you are still having the same problem as yesterday, I responded
to you yesterday with the fix for that.
