Vista will not install on new hard drive

I installed vista Beta 2 on my system.
No problems at all. I received RC 1 and upgraded the system no problems.
My hard drive crashed so I got a new 80 gig Western Dig. hard drive.
I first installed XP Pro with NTFS file.
Now when I try to install the beta version on the new hard drive I get an
error message stating "Your computer is not compatible and you can not
install Vista.
So I tried to install the upgrade without the beta version first.
I get an error message stating "This comp. is not compliant with the Advanced
Configuration and Power Interface standard"
My computer is ACPI compliant.
I did the Vista scan to see what it could find and the Vista scan says my
computer
is compliant and will run vista.
I have tried numerous times but get the same errors.
I have downloaded and installed all available updates.
Can anyone help me with this problem?
Thank you

Did you update the XP install. Are you dual booting, and if not, why
did you reinstall XP? WD drives are a little different in the way you
set the master/slave jumper. How is yours set and is it on an IDE
channel by itself?

Hi Clark
Thank you for your response.
Yes I updated the XP Pro before trying to install Vista.
No, I am not duel booting. The only reason I installed XP first was that is
how I did it the first time. I installed over a XP Pro HD I had.
I have the hard drive set as master and there are no other hard drives on
the system. XP installed ok so I think I have it correct.

Hi Clark
After reading your message, I decided to clean install.
I formatted the hd and Vista started to install. I thought all was great
until the system re-booted after the list of chores were finished.
It never booted back up.
I tried several times but nothing. The monitor was blank and no indicator
lights were flashing. Hard drive and cd were off.
I waited about 5 minutes, maybe 6 and shut down.
Does this give you any usefull info?
Thanks
David

Well, just in case it might be a problem, if you do have the WD hard drive
on an IDE channel by itself, make sure and set it to single (not master),
unless you are using cable select, I suppose.

Ok, Sorry about that.
I went to a Maxtor hard drive. Also 80 gig.
I have the jumper on "Master".
My choice is DS (Master)
CS Enabled
Cap Limit
