Last July I had a mail problem which had to do with update KB933928. Once
removed the problem went away. Since then, however, I've been a bit paranoid
about the updates so I've not allowed anymore. Of course, my computer
reminds me every day that important updates are waiting for download.
Everything seems to be working fine on the computer. Are there updates that
I should be adding? Are there ones causing more problems? Any advice?

Two choices;
1. Keep your system up to date, researching why that update caused a problem
and what can be done about it.
2. Live in fear with an out-dated system that is more likely to be
compromised

Any update distributed for Windows Vista as a Recommended or Important
update by Microsoft for Vista is important, since Updates are meant improve
the reliability, performance, stability and security of the operating
system. My recommendation in this case is to create a System Restore point
before applying the update, you also have the option in the Windows Update
explorer > View Updates to optionally exclude a particular update. But its
always recommended you download your Windows Updates if your computer is
constantly connected to the Internet.

While many people worry about updates, if they are not installed then
surelythat exacerbates the worry. Windows updates consists of three
categories: Important, Recommended and optional. I personally install all
categories and can't say that i've experienced any major problems with any of
them. Without a doubt i would advise that you install the important updates,
at least.
In most cases a system restore point will be created when the update is
installed; an alternative is to manually create that restore point and then,
if problems do occur, you can always rstore your system to an earlierrestore
point.

George;
You should install all Important updates.

As for the other updates, look at the description to see if you may
need them.

Make sure your computer is free of viruses, spyware and other malware.
Disable any unnecessary programs such as anti virus, download
accelerators, etc before starting.
All problems, known and unknown, should be resolved before installing
any updates.

Be sure to enable anti virus before doing anything else after update
installation.
A reboot should suffice.
