Hello, my vista has been acting funny for quite some time now, and I'm coming
here for help.

Firstly, my desktop icons, folders, and files don't show their corresponding
names anymore, but only the date modified. I no longer have the option to
show the name of the file in the document settings. Also whenever I open the
personalize window from desktop it opens for a second and closes right away,
which is the second problem. There are a lot of windows that will open for a
second and close right away including personalize, games, search, windows
updater, etc.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Go to Start > All Programs > Accessories and right-click
on the Command Prompt and choose "Run as administrator".
Type in: SFC /SCANNOW and press your Enter key.

If that does not work, try repairing your system. Boot from your Windows
Vista DVD, select the System Repair Option > on the setup screen, select
'Repair Computer > Select your installation of Windows > select Startup
Repair option and follow instructions.

It said that corrupt files were detected but not all of them could be fixed,
and then it tells me to check out the logs in which I don't have access to
for some reason.

The problem still exists.

My Vista was pre-installed, so I don't have the Vista DVD. Is there another
way I can do that process without the DVD?

Try doing a System Restore to a point time before the system started
experiencing the problem or contact your OEM for support regarding the
Windows Vista DVD so you can do a repair install.

The system restores don't date back enough to fix the problem, because like
an idiot I didn't try to resolve the problem when it surfaced.

I did however create a recovery disc, and I guess I can go through the
hassle of reinstalling everything.

Thanks for the help!
