Vista ultimate & new MS ATI 1900 update

I've been using Vista Ultimate since it was released on MSDN... Applied
ATI's RC1 drivers, and the latest version released on Dec 12 and its been
working great. Then last Thurs or Friday, MS released a driver version on
Windows Update and my display no longer works at all... I see the Post and
initial boot, but once it goes to the hi-res mode for the desktop, the screen
goes blank. Had to go into Safe mode and disable my video adapter to get
picture back. Now all I get is a very slow 800x600 in the standard VGA
driver. Can seem to remove this driver at all... tried to wipe and reinstall
Vista, but it just keeps grabbing the bad driver during the Update phase of
the install process, so now Im really screwed.

Don't really want to go back to XP..... any suggestions?

Try installing offline and don't turn on Automatic Updates. Get the system
stabilized and go from there.

Yes - tried that too before the last attempt at Vista....

Just reinstalled XP, and can get up to 1400x1050 with the default VGA driver
installed so it does not appear to be a HW problem. I did a clean install of
Vista - including drive format every time. Going to try offline install with
format one more time... if it doesnt work, guess Ill have to stick with XP
for awhile.

I used the computer last Wednesday evening, and shut down around 11pm. When
booted the next morning, the video was gone.... Very strange.....

Yeah, I tried this update just before Christmas and it completely hosed the
display. I have a 1900 Crossfire (second card don't work in Vista) and
either get 800x600 on a Dell 30" or corrupt video. This is why we make
images.
