Lately, all AutoComplete functionality (forms, logins, passwords) stopped
working. Not only doesn't IE8 remember my old credentials - it never offers
to save the new ones any more.

What gives?

You should check under Internet Options to see if the features are turned on
(you don't mention having tried this, so that's all I can suggest). Maybe
in the name of "security" those options are all off by default.

Click Tools (menu) > Internet Options (menu option)

Then go to the Content (tab)

Click the Auto Complete (button)

Choose the options for auto complete e.g. for browsing history (auto
complete web URL), favourites, news feeds, windows search

Choose auto complete for Forms/Usernames & Passwords, and check "ask me
before saving passwords".

Do you use any disk clean up tool like the Windows one, or CCleaner?
These types of utility will delete such things as the forms/auto complete
files unless you tell them not to, so you might have accidentally deleted
all the data that is used to retain information like usernames/passwords
etc. Similar disk clean-up tools may well do the same thing.

When did the ability to use the auto complete feature stop working, and what
did you do immediately prior to this not working?

Thanks, but this has been the first thing I checked - all settings OK.

Also, I cannot remember what exactly I was doing immediately before my IE
went south....
