Hello

I am looking for a trial version of vista and can only find the VHD version,
can anyone point me in the right direction?

Any version will do?

Hi,

There technically is no trial version. There is only the release version
which can be installed without a product key and used for 30 days (for some
reason Microsoft does not term this as a trial period). At 30 days you can
either purchase a Product Key appropriate for the version you installed, or
remove it from the system and install something else (note that if you
upgrade an existing XP/2000 installation you will NOT be able to undo the
upgrade, you will have to format and reinstall the original operating system
on a clean slate). You can use any retail 32 or 64 bit DVD to do this.

you have to buy the release version. You cannot download it legally.

The only thing that can be considered a trial is the VHD version that you
can run on a virtual machine..

I have been able to convert that into a version that can be installed on a
Hard Disk using a clever trick..
of course the same time limitations still apply.
but I doubt that is in compliance with the agreement of the VHD download. I
did it only out of interest
in experimentation.

How did I do the trick? I used a disk imaging bootable cd software to create
an image of the virtual machine,
then I transfered that image to a real hard disk, the virtual machine image
has not started detecting the hardware,
thus this image when it starts it detects the real hardware. I know this is
advanced and I do not recomend it...

cant you use virtual pc 2007 that is free and use the VHD to test vista?

I could do, I managed to get a copy from a colleague, so will use that for now.

Thanks anyway
