Vista too expensive

European consumers should not buy Vista in price almost double than
this in USA.

We can also live without them. They are not essentially.
We should fight for better prices. Let's resist in the publicity.

Care to share actual price quotes for Vista in Greece that made you so
upset?

I thought UK is most unfortunate EU country in this regard because of high
taxes or whatever reason they have to set Vista prices at almost same level
that in USA... just appending "GBP" to the number instead of USD.

That has nothing to do with taxation and everything to do with greed.

VAT is 1.75% in the UK so with the current value of GBP being around $2
USD, a version of Vista costing, say, $200 USD should be £100+ VAT =
£117.50. But no, they're greedy so it's £200+VAT = £235.

If you mean 630 Euros - that is $821.00 U.S. dollars !!
I don't blame you for wanting to boycott MS. I would too.
Many people in the U.S. think their prices are too high too.

But, MS has a monopoly on about 90% of the worlds desktop PCs,
so they can charge what they want. And if you don't buy now,
they will wait, until support for XP expires, and then you have to upgrade...

Start a worldwide boycott of Microsoft. It should be easy in Europe.
They don't like Americans anyway.

You think that 629,99 ˆ for Ultimate retail is a reasonable price?

Very clever! You must, certainly, be a rich man!!

No, I don't. I was just asking you to be more specific.

It sounds like a lot more compared to suggested retail price for Ultimate
edition quoted on Windows Vista web site which is $399 USD:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsvista/getready/editions/ultimate.mspx

You should ask the source of prices you quoted about reasons behind this
difference and refer to abovementioned site.

But to be fair the price you quoted is for the topmost retail edition. There
are a lot of less expensive retail and OEM editions, upgrade paths, not to
mention "Anytime Upgrade" that allows you to spread the expense.

Take HW manufacturers for example. They too have enormous prices for
bleeding edge/high end products and more reasonable prices for mainstream
product lines.

Still while $400 USD to me sounds like somewhat reasonable price for an
Ultimate Edition, 629,99 ˆ seems to be really too much for an OS.

US and Canadian prices are shown WITHOUT taxes, be they locally imposed or
import taxes, which vary from one place to another..

Once the tax is added, the prices here don't look so damn good either..

629,99ˆ - 19%VAT =510,29ˆ. It sounds me not reasonable to pay almost 665 USD for an OS without taxes.
Windows XP was much more cheaper

Whether William is rich or not is not relevant.
His financial status has no effect on how you choose to spend your money.
You have a choice to buy or not regardless what anyone else says.

It seems a great many products from many venders are higher in Europe.
Do you know the reason?
There are several possibilities a few being:
1. Something in the European economic system encourages or forces the
higher prices.
This is not a Microsoft or other manufacturer solvable issue.
2. Many manufacturers have ganged up on Europe to get higher prices.
If this is the case, you should ask why and attempt to determine the cause.
While this may be partly caused by Microsoft, there are other underlying
issues and boycotting Microsoft or singling out any of the others will do
little if anything to remove the underlying cause.

I am not going to buy it, I don't see te point, Xp does what I want and
to be honest with all the problems I had with Vista RC1, Bill Gates can
stick Vista where the sun don't shine.
When I buy anew Lap top, I want Xp on it, not vista, otherwise I will go
with Linux instead, proberly the best way anyway.

Agree. No matter you're using win95, 98, ME or 2000 on your laptop, you can
install the latest version of Linux. Debian 'ETCH' is coming SOON :)

There is very little comparison between Vista RTM and the earlier Betas such
as RC-1.
To be a better evaluation, get the free evaluation version of Vista which
will probably be available soon after the general public release of Vista.

On the other hand, do not upgrade simply because there is a new version of
anything.
If what you have does the job and you can see no benefit in upgrading, stay
with what you have.
This does not apply to Windows Vista but applies to any programs, operating
system, hardware etc from any manufacturer.
