Vista Telnet to Port 25

O

OKuma

If my laptop is connected to the domain it is registered to, I can telnet to
port 25.

If I am connected to anyother network, I cannot telnet to port 25.

The firewall is turned off.

Am I missing something?

TIA-

Telnet to which PC (IP address)? Port 25 should be the SMTP port.
If I am connected to anyother network, I cannot telnet to port 25.
The firewall is turned off.

Could it be a case of wrong default gateway?

Many (most?) ISPs block port 25... Could it be related to the ISP?

Also, any group policies that dictate how the firewall operates?

True, Port 25 is blocked is you are on a dynamic / home circuit.

I think it has to do with the advanced security rules in Vista.

If my Location Type is Domain, I can telnet to port 25 on my clients SMTP
servers.

The problem is if my Location Type is Private, I cannot telnet to any of my
clients SMTP servers.

I've tried creating inbound rules, but nothing seems to work.

Has anyone else have this problem, I know that I can't be the only admin
that's having this problem.
