Vista System - Partition Harddrive

If I get a system that already has Vista pre-loaded (160GB HD), I want to
know if I can use Acronis Disk Administrator to partition the harddrive?
Once partitioned, will Vista run okay?

I also want to know if I can use Acronis TrueImage to image the OS for
storage (as a backup Image)?

I am aware that Vista comes with it's own Disk Administer that allows
resizing of partitions. I would like to stick with Acronis if possible.

Thanks

yes, if you mean Acronis Disk Director.
yes, if you don't mess up the Vista partition.

What do you mean by messing up the Vista Partition?

What I want to do is split the partition and resize as I see fit using the
two products I mentioned (Acronis Disk Director & Acronis TrueImage ver 10).

Just kidding.... ;-)

I did the same with my wife's notebook. Only, it had XP on it, and I kept it
as a dual boot option.

I know it will work with WindowsXP.
My question refers more to the fact that Windows Vista uses a different type
of NTFS (newer version/same name) that may not be compatible.

So the issue is that I need to know if the newest tools from Acronis are
compatible with the new NTFS system that all new computer systems shipped
out.

The latest version of Acronis Disk Director works with Vista.. as always,
ensure that you back up all important stuff before you start the process..

Only build 2160 of DD is Vista aware, so don't use anything earlier than
that.

If you bought the download instead of the Disk, make sure you can create a
bootable recovery CD. I can't so I can only use TrueImage to install from
another installed system. Probably not feasible in your situation, if the
partition process goes awry. Wouldn't expect it to though, so good luck.

My version will install on your system. Once installed, you have the option
to create the bootable CD. I've always used the Bootable CD anyway. Just
seems safer.

I'm not sure what DD is?

Acronis Disk Director 10 -- but only Build 2160 will work on Vista.
If your Build number is less than 2160 then you should update from
the Acronis website (for free).

1. You don't say what version you are running, and
2. I didn't say what version of TrueImage or Vista I am running
so how could you make the statement? Acronis TrueImage 9.1 Workstation
Vista Ultimate 64-bit
As to install, it does, as to Acronis Media Builder, it crashes.

Duh! Sorry!
My Acronis True Image is Ver 10 Build 4871.
My Acronis Disk Director is Ver 10 Build 2117.
This is off of the bootable CD that was created. So I need to update my
product, then create another CD (I guess). I will look into it and post my
results.
Thanks

Sorry. My post (above.. under Don) explains that I'm running Version 10.
However, according to Don, I need to update my version to the correct Build
Number for it to be compatible to Vista.

I did not consider the 64 bit system. The system my friend has is the 32
bit version of the OS.

I have my version (Acronis Disk Administrator & Acronis TrueImage) installed
on my Windows XP Pro. That is why I said it installs and runs from Windows
and has the option to create the bootable CD (which I prefer to run). I did
test TrueImage on Windows XP by building an image of the C-Drive, using the
GUI while in Windows (not using the bootable CD). It "locks the drive down"
then creates the image. I then restored it. Everything works great, but I
personally will still use the bootable CD method. Again, this is with
Windows XP.

That is why I started this POST ... I wanted information that can help me
with my friends NEW PC that will be running Vista Home 32 bit OS.

Sorry for any confusion.

According to the update page, these are the latest product version/build.
This means that I have Disk Director Server (2117) which is the latest build
and your Disk Director Suite (2160) is the latest build. I don't know the
difference. However, my TrueImage (4871) needs to be updated to 4942.
Therefore, sense we have slightly difference ADDS, (and the highest
ver/build) It's a bit confusing as to what I need that will on Vista.

I will contact the company.. I guess.

The Acronis website states that the latest build of DD Server is Vista
compatible, so what you have should do the job. Do update TrueImage,
of course.
