vista sp1 up grade CRASHED computer

Skooch

after auto update (tried to install sp1 ) to vista my computer crashed. I
tried to use the auto repair option on the windows CD (DIDN'T) work. (last
restore point didn't work either) So I had to reinstall the O\S onto the hd.

SO my question IS.

Is there any way to Go into the old install of windows vista and fix it. so
I don't have to reinstall everything I've all ready installed? then to delete
the new install of vista I did to get the computer up to work on.

TIA

Hi,

Depends on how you reinstalled. If you did it without formatting, then the
original installation would be in a windows.old folder, and you can use the
process described here to recover it:

As to the problems with SP1, try free support from Microsoft:

I am currently struggling through the same problem. The auto update to SP1
has crashed my system and I am scared of reinstalling the O/S from the
upgrade DVD I have as I believe my files and data will be gone in this case.

Is there a way that I will keep my existing data (all my music, videos. pics
and word/ excel files) and be able to restore/ reinstall the Vista Home
Premium version???
